Does anyone know if international has a ait filter for the 6.o. I think if they do it will be alot cheaper and I am about to head to Intl to pick up some other things....thanks
i worked for a company that used air filters from them i believe and dusted 6 engines so i'd steer clear of them. Buy an after market intake for any where from 450-550 dollars and in 4 cleanings it's paid fo itself. thats my advice.
The factory air filter (Donaldson) will last up to 80k miles. It is very efficient and it will support 500+ horsepower. Ford did this right!
No way an aftermarket air filter will ever pay out.
Lots of threads on this. If you do a search you should find them easily. There is data and experience behind the statements on power and filtration efficiency. You will find those that disagree, but there will not be data behind those perspectives.
Now if you want over 500 hp and/or an easier way to change the element (and money is no big concern and you don't mind the chance of a little more dirt ingestion), lots of decent choices out there.
Oh - I have never heard of the International Dealership carrying them. I buy them at either "Dieselfiltersonline.com" or "Powerstrokeshop.com". They are around $55.
so if an aftermarket air filter doesnt do anything then why is it that i have less turbo lag and better fuel economy after adding one? Also you can beat the way your turbo sounds once you add one to your system. some people are just over opinionated on this i find. some gives a little fead back and some other clown has to try to hack em down. funny how that works.
Bismic, With all the discussion and actual tests done on the Donaldson and A/M filters, if someone doesn't want to believe facts and prefers to believe a non scientific seat of the pants review, you, we or anyone else is not going to change his mind. However if he gets a dusted turbo or worse, watch him come back and bad mouth Ford. I and I'm sure you have seen this happen in the past and they are usually the sqeakiest wheel.
Used Donaldson filters in underground mining diesels for decades. This is severe service on steroids and the Donaldson's just keep on working great. Seen pounds of dust come out of them.

There are so many factors that go into economy that no one can narrow it down to one factor, not one because you cannot hold all factors constant in order to test that one factor(in this case the mod) in order to see if there is a benefit.
Turbo lag is hugely dependant on the application of the lead foot.
It is has been shown(I've seen one test done by an aftermarket intake company) that a/m filters do not filter more then the stock airfilter until your are about 3,700 rpms. Now on a stock and/or chipped truck why would you be at 3,700 rpms when peak tq is at 2,000 and peak hp is at 3,300 rpms? You are well outside your powerband. A/M are not needed until you start messing with turbos and injectors for power well above 500hp, something you cannot attain with the 6.0 and custom tunning(don't care how could the person tuning is) and that pushes your peak hp rpm range at or past 3,700.
Don't believe all the advertising out there, not on a/m intakes for 6.0s and not on some mystery injector "additive" for the 6.0s either.
i just noticed a lot when i went a/f with my intake and a lot less off the "farting" noise that i got with my stock filter. As far as dusting my turbo, i maintain my filter media very well and run a pre-filter and have over 160,000km on it and no dust past the filter as of yet. but hey, each to thier own.

I don't broach the support of dusting the turbo unless your running a K&N filter, they do have a habit of it.
However, it still does not flow more then the stock filter til you get to 3,700 rpms and there is just no need for you to be there with a stock and/or chipped truck. That is well outside it's powerband.
Oh and your the first person that has noticed less "farting" noise with an a/m intake then with stock. I hear it more the other way around, but it could happen, just depends on how you drive.
I bought a Donaldson air filter from a business here that mainly supplies the mines and governmental entities, and does some retail activity. The filter was white, IIRC since then I have heard it is better to get the blue one, somehow it is better?
I am old as hell so this may not make much sense, I could be confusing another argument or thread. Anyone able to sort this out?
The blue media does not plug up when wet. The pores on the white media will "blind off" when the mix of dirt and moisture tries to pass through the media.
