Seems all manuals on water pump replacement say to replace 3 long bolts, airtex wpump did not come with bolts.
They say used bolts could break easily??
Is it reall necessary to replace these bolts?? Hard to find.
Thanks in advance guys.
I personally have never replaced those bolts when replacing the water pump and have never had any issues out of mine in the last 30,000 miles or so. On your other problem with your stripped bolt, since you have already pulled the radiator it doesn't take that much more to pull the IC and that would give you a lot more room to work with under there.

The IC is? Transmission cooler and AC whatchamacallit??
Thanks, i believe you gave me the info before, do you have that corrct ftlbs close at hand?
The instructions listed water pump bolt at 35 to 46 ft lbs.INCORRECT
18 ft lbs is the correct torque.
Cant believe they wont change that on their site.
Diesel newbie here, I started a new thread befroe I found this one so I'll ask ya'll too. I have removed my water pump from my 2000 F350 7.3 and noticed no thread sealant on any of the bolts which I have learned is normal since they dont go in to any jackets, however I am concerned that the long bolt in the lower center has thick oil on it, is this normal? Kinda skeered right bout now
All 3 of my long bolts were mucky and corroded looking in center, maybe a little oil dont remember, but i would say nonprofessionally that is normal??
There's good link on youtube for replacing pump if you need help, its what i used with sucess and i am not a mechanic.
Go to youtube and search 7.3l diesel waterpump.
Good Luck.
