I have searched site and unable to find any info.. My question is what should normal fuel psi be @ idle and under load or normal driving. I have a 06 f-350 with autometer electric gauge with sender mounted in billet cap. My gauge shows 49 @ idle and between 40-46 while driving. Filters are brand new and truck has just under 20000. mi. Would it be a better reading @ the test port ? Also the alum billet cap the filter does not snap in at the top, if that even matters...thanks
Fuel pressure is regulated to 100 psig out of the HFCM.
Then a recirculation regulator opens at 60 psig to take the fuel back to the HFCM.
O-rings can start to fail over 75 psig.
For '03 and '04, 50 psig is minimum. For '05-'07, 45 is minimum (no lower than 45: never-ever).
I would say between 50 and 60 at low throttle and idle. Between 45 and 50 at WOT under severe service (hopefully closer to 50).
Might be worth looking into a FASS system. It cured my fuel pressure and thus injector issues.

You'll need to do a Regulated Return kit to really make your fuel delivery system bullitproof.

Well you definately don't want it under 40, but if it was healthy you shouldn't see under 45 at WOT and your seeing that just cruising. I would think your fuel pump is starting to falter. Do a couple of runs after warming up your truck at WOT and see what your gauge is reading.
Now you could look into a FASS system for sure and that will supply more then enough fuel(make sure you tell them to put the 60 psi spring in there) for you even if you do modified injectors. If you have been prone to injector issues before you noticing your dip in pressure(such as issues with dead-heading) then I would also suggest a Regulated Return kit. Now if you plan on going wild with mods then I would suggest both as a matter of course.
Ok i am not ready for a fass system. This thread has had numerous views but only a few replies and i have a new ? Those of you with Fuel gauges please chim in here ! ! I replaced sender on gauge and now i have 35psi on startup, cruising is @ appx 47-49 never gets to 50. After startup it takes less than a minute to get into the high 40's. Never had any problems with truck, never had a cel or any codes, filters have less than 500 miles and truck has around 20000.mi... Off topic i cleaned my egr valve lastnight and it only had light soot no moisture, no oil residue @ all. First time ive had it out and always power service grey every tank... thanks
I have a fuel psi gauge and the only fluctation that I get is when I let the glow plugs warm up and then when I go to turn the engine over. Once my vehicle turns over it never losses fuel psi. When I started lossing fuel psi when I had the stock pump is when the stock pump was taking a dive and then I got a FASS and she is good to go. Unless your doing WOT, you really shouldn't be losing pressure.
