Sandblasting Truck Frame..

Hey guys!!!!
Just a question?
Wanting some other feed back... Should I get a shop to sandblast the frame of my truck as best as they can with body on? Or just take a angle grinder and a wheel brush and get to work?
Just wondering what everyone thinks..

Tear it down to just the frame then blast it and paint it....if you can't do that just get under there with some good safety glasses and a dust mask and get with it. Blasting it with the body on would be more trouble than it's worth. I was going to do the same as you but this is what I ended up doing. Hope this helps.

wow,
Nice frame. They did a very nice finish.
I do not have the room to rip the body off which is depressing. Maybe next house, I think I will just get the good ol wire brush and angle grinder out and elbow grease and lots of hours and get the best of it till I can sandblast.
Thanks
Cheers

Wire brushing and such is just gonna be a waste of time man, that's my opinion. Unless you do a ton of prep and prime it and everything else it doesn't have good odds of sticking/looking good. I debated it for awhile myself but it's a lot of work!
Good luck man. Best and easiest is to strip it to the frame like homeboy ^.

Hey guys....
Ya i wish, this new place is just the pits. No yard nothing truck is way to tall to go into the little garage all my tools are in storage. This pad sucks for sure. Thats why I was thinking wire brush for now just to clean it up and then sand blast later.
Cheers

I used an angle grinder and a wire wheel to do mine. If I had the $$ I would have opted for blasting, but as it stands, my "poor man" resto has held up well. I wire wheeled it, washed with dish soap and a brush, and then brushed on rustoleum red primer and satin black.

Use a scraper and get off as much as you can first, then work with the wire brush and grinder. With the body on, I definately wouldn't recommend blasting as whatever media you use would get everywhere. You'll have to be sure to clean up all the areas from what the grinder slings too, but it won't be as bad as blasting. Once you have as much old paint & rust off as possible, treat the metal with something like Ospho (cheapest) or POR's Metal Ready. Then prime & paint as you see fit.

Good luck and please let us know how things are coming along.

I agree that blasting with the body off would be the best way to go but its not always as easily done as said.

Hey,
ya changing all fluids today and just cleaning things up like extra fuel lines that are not needed as we put the gas tank into the box. What not, I would hate to be the guy to sandblast it. Just way to tight and what not.
Once this rain goes away I will be getting onto that and getting the frame cleaned up for a good year of wheeling.
Cheers
