The best place to put an exhaust temp sensor. before the turbo are after. And if its before the turbo whats the temp run between and what about after the tubro
Most of the shaving will fall down as you drill. You can use a vacuum to get the rest of the pieces after it's tapped.
Crawl under the truck on the driver side and look up at the manifold:

or you can fish around with one of them telescopic magnets to clear the chips from in the manifold
or you can dip a q tip in some grease and pick up the chips that way
I drilled and tapped mine with the engine running to blow any chips back out the hole.
Why wouldnt you put in on the dow pipe? Thats where mine is?
The closer to the pistons the more accurate readings. The probe in the DP is anywhere from 150-300 degrees cooler than the RH exh manifold.
By the time you see a max temp of 1250 in the DP your pistons may be as hot as 16-1700 degrees....melted or cracked at best. Every time the piston sees more than 1250...it's getting small fractures in it.

I know that seems to be the general consensus, but I don't agree. The probe in the manifold will respond quicker but with a few seconds the one near the turbo will be just as hot. Once the temps have stabilized the readings will be the same.
