I have a bad wrist pin in my 351 so I'm looking at getting another motor. One of the local pick-and-pull yards is having a sale this week, $95 for any engine. They have two 95 vans with 351's that I'm thinking about. Will these motors swap right in? I'm thinking of either A) swapping my current motor for one of these and then rebuilding my original or B) rebuilding the van motor and then swapping it. When I swap, I'm planning on swapping all of the accessories and fuel injection from my current motor to the new motor.
What do you think? So far, my current motor is holding up but I'm not sure for how long. This is my daily driver so it can't be out of commission for too long.
As long as you swap the accy's, don't see why it won't bolt right in. Might have to swap intakes? upper intakes? Not sure how much they changed in the years. Shouldn't be a big deal though.
$95 for a motor? That's a deal, hope you get a good one.
Did they give you any idea of the mileage on those 2- 95 351s?.......Go for the lowest of the 2, give them a good visual condition inspection. Whats their warranty/return policy?
If you get a good one, run it while you rebuild your old block with a few performance goodies, then you can swap back at your leisure.
The Van motor is identical you yours it will swap right in, the only thing that may be different is the oilpan, not sure if the vans used front or rear sump.
They have an exchange policy of 90 days I believe. They don't record the mileage so its a bit of guess work, unless the vans came with mechanical odometers.
I lean towards rebuilding the van motor strictly from an effort perspective. Rebuilding my motor would entail two motor swaps. As for a visual inspection, what am I looking for?

Look for the cleanest of the 2, no big obvious oil leaks, signs of abuse. neglect, check in side the valve covers and pull the dipstick and look for signs of coolant having been present in oil.make sure the wreckers didnt damage anything when the removed it........Gonna be very hard to tell miles, they have LCD odometers.
Thanks for the tips. This is a U-pull yard so I'll be the one taking it out. Unfortunately, they drain all of the fluids when they get the vehicles so I won't be able to check the oil.
If they are still in the rigs, bring a small 12v power source and ask the wreckers for the keys (they still have them) you can hook up to the batt. cables and get the odometer reading.....done this several times...... R&Ring these motors is not hard, but it will be a little harder in a van,....Bring band aids.
Just found a 1990 f250 with 75,000 kms on a 351 for cheap. Would this motor work with minimal changes in my truck? What motor differences are there between a 90 and a 94 351?
Only major difference is the possiblity of your 94 being a roller cam block.
The Vans did have something going for them, the power steering pump is one of the more sought after upgrades to the trucks as it was suppose to be a heavier duty pump.
That's a good find, it will be down on power compared to your '94 because the older motors had a smaller cam, but that's an easy fix and flat tappet cams are cheap.
