first off ,i hope im posting this right. if i hi jacked somebodys thread i did not mean to. i have a 72 ford truck its a 1/2 ton ranger with 411 gears doug nash trani and a 427. the problem im having is the head lights and blinkers. the lights will work for a few miles then they will flash on and off and so on. i thought it was the dimmer so i by passed it and it still does the same thing. any help would be great
Hi dirtyoldrat and welcome to FTE. It sounds like your truck needs a light switch. The light switch has a circuit breaker built into it. This is what's causing the headlights to flash off and on.
You also mentioned a problem with turn signals ( blinkers ) but you need to post more info as to what is happening.
Sounds like you got quite a hot rod, love the specs!
Like Clay mentioned, replace the headlight switch. They are know to get weak and like he said, the circuit breaker will start to cause the lights to blink on/off. Gets really bad if you use the brights. Even if you use Halogen bulbs instead of old sealed beams they tend to draw more power and cause this problem.
Let us know about the turn signal problems, as we can likely help you there too.
well the truck is old school rod.
manual breaks power steering.
the 427 i put in the truck.
it has dual points, 2 450 holleys now,40 over, shaved heads,510 cam, gear drive, knife edged crank, headers and so on.....
its a cool old ride. all original interior as well.
and let me add that it will get down the road in a hurry.
i still need to do front cab mounts.
but other then that its rust free.
the truck has been in my family since it was new
That truck sounds like so much fun. I just rebuilt my 360 but I have a 427 sitting in another project truck ('55 F-100) that is tempting me. But, I would want it in a shortbox 2wd instead of the longbox I have now. Maybe with a 4 speed top loader....yeah!
I'd love to take a ride in one of these old gals with a 427...someday. I like my longbox. It's nice and all. But I like the '55 also. Just so much more old school. But both are great trucks.
