Oil leak??

I was replacing the OEM steering stabilizer when I noticed some area wet with fresh oil. The worst was from just in front of the transmission pan. I put some pics in my gallery.

Any ideas??

I guess it could be transmission fluid, but it was BLACK like oil.

Most fluids that end up on the bottom end up black like oil. I'd start by trying to figure out if it's tranny fluid, diesel fuel, or motor oil. You can pull the dust cover off of the flywheel to take a look, but I'd start by grabbing a flashlight and inspecting the valley for any signs of leaks. Any fluids leaking on the top of the motor can work there way down to where your evidence is.

From what I could see in the photos, it looks too thin to be oil. I am going to bet that you have a fuel leak up top, maybe where the fuel line connects to the rear of the passenger's side head. That one will run down and hit the starter motor.

It does look thin and coming from the top side. I'm with Guzz on the fuel leak. There is a link in my signature to get you to the best place around to stock up on some needed o rings. Three little orings will probably solve your problem.

I haven't checked underneath since I changed my drain orings, but my truck had a leak like yours that was slowly getting worse. The valley and pass head were wet with what looked like oil. Now that the orings are changed, the top of the engine is dry. I would wager the bottom is too.

Long late reply.

So I got the O-ring kit from Guzzle and rebuilt the whole fuel filter assembly. And my fuel leak stopped completely. The sleeves in the fuel lines were shredded completely.

Next day, I have a dark oil spot with oil in the valley. So I get the o-ring kit for the HPOP. My buddy changes out the 2 o-rings on the driver's side of the HPOP and it seems to have done the trick.

Thanks to everyone on the site and to Guzzle expecially.

Charlie

Yep. I have done this same fuel leak fix on my 2000 F250 and 2003 Excursion.
