to some of you this may seem a dumb question, but i have had trouble finding the answer. i have a 95 f150 flareside, with a 4.9 and a 5 speed mt. i am about to change the fluid in it with some amsoil atf. my question is what is the drain and fill plug size? i know that it is a larger plug size that i dont have a socket for, so i have to go out and get one..... anyone know the plug size.?? also, just add the ATF? i just changed the fluid on the rear diff., and i had to put in a additive. is this the same for the trans? thanks....
It should be the same as you fill plug in your axle... I dont know anything about the manual trannies in these truck put the 5speed in my car, the rear axel, tranfer case all use the 3/8" extension...
i know that the fill and drain plug on the MT are the same size, i am just trying to figure out what size. in the next couple days i will be changing the MT fluid, brakes, and doing the hub conversion from auto, to manual. i would just like to figure out what size sockets i need so i only have to make one trip to auto-zone for the three sockets that i need for these little projects......
Takes 3.8 quarts of ATF that meets Mercon/Dexron II specs. No additives are needed.
The rear takes Hypoid gear lube. You need to add a friction additive if you have a Trac Loc rear. Some synthetics say you can use it with no additives in a limited slip type rear.
You can purchase a manual pump sort of like what's used on the Windex window cleaning bottles that screw on to the ATF bottles so you can pump the fluid back in to the transmission.
have fun with the conversion did mine last summer. lil tip the instructions left out but my dad told me is keep a lg. screwdriver or prybar handy. you may need to pry the axle outwards to set the outer snapring in place. lil word to the wiser i didn't realize i had to do that and sat there tapping on the hub kit to get the lock in place and was getting no where.
