Trouble is I cannot get the darn ECU out. For 1997 the instructions say remove the ECU from the front of the firewall. Trouble is the ECU hits the wheel well before it will slide all the way forward and out.
Also- There were three bolts holding the ECU on. two hold the seal and one 10mm bolt through the center of the unit. the two nuts on the seal bolts are off as is the center bolt. However, the two seal bolts seem to be holding something as well that prevents the ECU from sliding out.
Am I missing something here that is holding the ECU in place?
after two hours I throw myself on the mercy of the forum. Thanks

Reason: wrong year forum-sorry
Loosen the center bolt that holds the connector on. You need to remove the two nuts at the top and the bottom that take the retainer off. Then you need to remove a couple of the screws that hold the fender liner on in the area the ECM hits it. Then take a pry bar and insert it between the fender and the liner and pry it down to give you clearance to pull the ecm out the rest of the way. Done it this way many many times. Instructions never seem to account for the fender liner being in the way.
The "something" the seal bolts are holding is the support that the ECM slides into. It doesn't come out.
