I did the muffler delete yesterday and it went very smoothly. I bought the pipe that was already flared and everything from http://www.puredieselpower.com/catal...pe-p-635.html\
My question is, will a 4" or 5" exhaust system be as loud as the muffler delete route? It isn't loud just idling but when I get on it....well it isn't quiet. lol It can be somewhat obnoxious I guess and I have never been one for "let me be as loud as I can be".
I am sure it is breathing better though, which is the only reason I did it.
I hear you on the obnoxious thing..I actually put my muffler back on and I couldnt believe the difference (loss of power) I felt. I would love to just find a muffler that flowed really well but was a bit less quiet.

Which is exactly why the muffler is going in the attic, just in case.
I have the MBRP SS turbo back, and it comes with a muffler. I installed the muffler because of the same reason. The muffler is the same size as the pipe inside, don't know how it muffles the sound but it sounds good to me.
I'm sure one of the big exhaust companies makes a straight thru muffler for a 3 1/2" pipe. My MBRP 4" with a the straight thru muffler is half as loud as the stock with no muffler.
I have a aeroturbine muffler.. It is much quiter then a muffler delete, Heck of a lot louder then stock when I stand on her, lets me breath real well, there was a difference in accelaration ( i thought ) when I installed it.. Just dont believe the hype about better gas milage..
Why not put a Walker RV muffler on it? It's straight through, and I didn't notice a difference in noise level, other than the turbo hiss is more pronounced.
You can get a muffler for free I did just ask for it and you will recieve. My exhuast exited right behind the cab I built a 4in system with a muffler and it sounds so much better then the flutter of a straight pipe.
I did the muffler delite as well a couple years ago, and to did not like the sound. I found a muffler at summit racing. It is a glass pack with a 3 1/2 inlet and outlet with a 4" shell, straight thru. Sounds reall good, best sound is when I put a load on it. Makes the turbo whistle a little louder also. It cost about $40.00 shipped. Check it out, I thank You will like it.
yea i agree i just cut out the muffler and made a turn down and the sound when i really step on it is not the diesel tone i know and love, i sounds like a gas motor, i sounds hollow and empty, i want the deep throughty sound i had on my 96 with a 4in exhaust and free flow muffler. how is the aero turbine? does it sound good? what are our options?
