Mike from 5 star tuning ask me to post the pics of my project. I am putting in a 2005 V10 in my 1997 F150, I know, I am crazy. But what is life without a challenge. it is another excuse to drink!!!
As you can see in the pics we removed the cab and the bed as I had decided to put in a 3" body lift to go along with my 5" Superlift kit that is in it. Well we found out it was a necessary lift, the intake would have hit if not. We used the stock motor mounts, and had to turn the passenger side one upside down. We also cut a tab off the back of the intake because it hit the firewall, then we had to dent in the firewall a little because it rubbed just a little. As you can see, we also had to cut off the boss on the exhaust manifold for the steering shaft. My original idea was to use the V10 computer to control the trans, but then I thought about using the 97 computer to control the trans and the V10 for the engine, so I called and ask Mike and he thought it might work, so that is what I am going to try. Here is the link to some pictures, as I have said I know I am crazy, but I will make it work somehow.
Bryan 6.8L V-10 in a 97 F-150 A - a set on Flickr
Hi Bryan
thanks for posting the link. I was actually thinking of your project today.
For the Maf / Intake tube we talked about. Beside a stock intake ,you can also use the AirAid intake kit and construct a tube after it. This might be a better way to go as you can adapt the filter vs a stock box to a specific location easier. You can install the MAF in the AirAid tube and the AirAid tube does not require a recalibration of the MAF. This saves you time and money...
What did you do to the tranny to ensure the torque doesn't grenade it on the first run. Isn't that F-150 tranny just a 4R70W? That's only rated for about 350lb ft of input torque. You're gonna have over 450...
I wonder how much a 1-2" body lift would have helped with the intake clearance, since the truck is already lifted?
Unless you bullet-proof that 4R70W, it's going to have a tough time dealing with all that torque.
In your last post you say you're going to get the 5-speed tranny, which is a good thing, that way it'll work with the 3-valve PCM, which is what I would have done to begin with
Well it has been awhile since I posted. I do not seem to check in as often in the summer. It has been a busy one. I have it all running, am still working with Mike @ 5 Star Tuning, but it is running good. I got a Trans controller from Kevin @ Baumann Electronic controls. I have it shifting good also, still may tweak some shift points and pressures. I need to finish up my Electric Fan and Cruise Control. I may put in all new guages later, after gears, since the tach will not work which I already new about.
