VIN number codes
I am thinking about buying a 1999 F-150 4x4 but have been unable to find the Gear Ratios. Is the information hidden in the VIN number or is there an easier way to find all the details?

Here's a link to an axle code chart located on this site. Look for the truck's axle code inside the driver's side doorsill. It should be right under where it says 'axle'. There is also another placard listing the weight ratings of each axle and the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).
If the code for the truck you're looking at isn't listed in the chart, post back and someone may be able to help.
