Hi everyone, quick question. Trying to remove the rear rotors. I was able to remove the caliper and caliper mounting bracket easily, but the rotors wont move at all. just like there welded on. Any tricks????? I did the the fronts last spring with no problems. Thank you in advance for any help and a great site.
The rear rotors are also mini-brake drums for the E-brake... you'll need to pop off the brake shoe adjuster hole plug, and then back off the adjuster to bring the shoes off the "mini-drum".
This isn't the big issue usually... the rotors are usually "fused" to the hub.
A "BFH" will do the trick... When I did my rear rotors last year it took a few wacks (don't be shy) from my trusty BFH and off came the fused rotor.
Yep, the "BFH" did the trick, course kinda hard to get a good swing layin on yer back, hahaa. Thank you for the quick reply, now just gotta go out an bed the brakes in.
hopefully this will help, the brakes have never been great. real soft pedal, too much pedal travel for my taste. So between the power slots and hawk pads up front, new rotors and pads out back, and several bleeding of the system this will work. oh, and also did the adjustment of the set screw behind the master cylinder, big help.
only thought left is on braided stainless brake lines. maybe they next.
More info on adjusting this set screw behind the master. First I'm hearing of this whats it do and why and all that??? Gonna go do some searching now as well.
I read it on a post from Monsta I think. There was a write up on it from the F150 site I believe. real easy to to. Unbolt the two 14mm? bolts holding the master brake res to the booster, and there's a tiny shaft behind it coming out of the booster with a screw threaded into it. I backed mine out (the screw) almost 2 full turns before the travel in the brake pedal was almost gone. Just hold the shaft gently with a pair of small pliers and turn the screw with another pair.
Tried it couple times about a half turn each time till I was happy with the feel. Just make sure you dont go out too much and ur brakes drag.
Before I did that the dealership just said "thats the way there are, can't do anything about it". Thats why I've come to love this site soo much.
I try to find it, but when ever i search for something, seems like i get the same post over and over, and never really what i was searching for, lol. but i try to look.
Wow, read all 15 pages worth info over on F-150 Online. Plenty of great feedback there that will certainly help Excursion owners having brake problems.
