That's crazy. My wife's Grand Prix GTP has a payload rating close to that. Why are they so low? What is your front and rear axle ratings? That's very scary. 4 good size guys going out to lunch would have it over the "rated" load. I've seen some w/ 4,000 lbs on the rear and some with 3,600 or something crazy low like that. Why such a huge difference? I don't remember what my 03 F-150 was rated at but my current personal truck (gasp 1500 LD chevy) is rated at 3950 front and 4,000 rear and 7000 combined. I think my company expedition is 3750 front and 4,250 rear, 7800 or 7600 total (I think?).
There is a very lengthy and extensive thread on here that discussed this issue to exhaustion. Pretty much the point is that the advertised payload is a max that doesn't take into account the weight of any additional options you get on the truck. Chevy, Dodge, and Toyota all do this in their advertising as well. Basically, to get your truck's true payload rating, look at the sticker in the door jamb, which supposedly takes into account the additional weight of any options. Vehicles produced before a certain year don't have it listed there. If you want more info, look for the big "payload" thread.
Yeah, me too but it was a good discussion and it led to a lot of very interesting info. I would have never in a million years guessed some of those numbers.
Oh gawd.... I hope that d@#* thing doesn't get resurrected.
I think it should be a sticky. It's a good bit of info for people to know before they buy a truck thinking it can carry what they advertise. Even the Ford rep who got back to me in the ned said that 900lbs is s stupid rateing for a truck that size lol
when i installed the 2" front level kit on my 05 F150 it ruined its smooth ride and it caused the front CV Joint to bend at an extreme angle
learned my lesson, won't do that to my new 09 F150

my ride hasnt changed at all, i had one on my 06 for 35,000 miles without a problem. i plan on getting the Rancho lieft when its available, but wanted to go woth larger tires now. WAS going to wait for Rancho, but they couldnt even tell me when the lift that was announced in November would be available.

thats funny cause i put the 2.5" kit on my 05 and never caused a problem. ride was fine, (had mudgrapplers so it wasnt the smoothest), and as far as the cv's go. there was no "extreme" angle. yeah it angled them a little but. a 6" put more of an angle on the cv's even with the dropdown than a 2" level does. and mine got flexed offroad quite a bit. never had a problem with the axles.

Same here, your kit was installed wrong or something. My angles are not extreme at all.
