we've taken the body trim off my 79' to wet sand it and fix some spots. I'm having trouble deciding weather I want to put the chrome side trim back on. The thing is, some of the studs that hold the trim on are broken off, does anyone know how to fix this? can the little metal clips just be pop riveted back on, or do I need special tools to put the clips back on?
I believe they make replacement studs that can be welded on with a "stud-gun" - it's a purpose made welding tool that is usually used for pulling dents by welding special "nails" into the dent.
I think they make versions of the nails that leave the right post behind for the trim.
Me personally I like both I think the trucks look good all smoothed out body (Must be the European import car side of me), But they also look good with clean dent free trim too.
I think it depends on the look you are going for to whether or not have the trim or no trim. I like both, but on my 76 and and 79 they are trimless, 79 came that way, 76 I removed it, it was in rather decent shape, but I was going for a more rugged farm truck/military truck style. I think the trim is best suited for restored show trucks and really nice luxary trucks, my 76 is a ranger, but it only had the trim, and has a ranger badge on the glove box, thats it. Its a work/farm/hotrod truck, it don't need fancey trim thats gonna get all beat up and torn off.
Like I said, depends on what kinda look your going for and also what are you gonna use the truck for as well.
Besides that......whats the point of owning a dentside.......if ya can't see the DENT!!!

Anotherpoint is shear cost, that lower race track is damn spendy, while the upper is cheap'ER, man it may run you a good almost $2000 to get perfect upper and lower race tracks and trim.
Just mark the out where you want them and any body shop can weld them on. They use a gun and only takes about a second or two on each one. If you have them marked out where you want them I don't think they would charge you much. My brother-in-law has one from Eastwood ( I think they call it a one sided spot welder) and it came with a pack of the studs. We put two on a new fender for my wife's car that came without the studs . A lot of the newer cars trim uses the same thing.
