got some $..what first?

OK, I will have a little money soon thanks to "Uncle Sam" taking so darn much over the past year. I don't know exactly how much I'll have because I've got to pay off some good 'ol credit cards. But anyway, my first question is this: I have the stock 3.5 inch exhaust with no muffler. Would a 1/2 inch bigger exhaust really make much of a difference? What about a 5 incher? And also should this be my first big purchase other than my cheap/free mods listed in my sig? Keep in mind I have a poo Edge Evolution... Would I contact Jody now, or do the exhaust first, if I need an exhaust? I don't do much towing, so EGT's aren't a big concern. Also keep in mind that with a DP I would need guages and I don't know how much money I'll have to play with. Please chime in with any ideas you have such as HPOP X-over, etc (don't even know if I need this with an almost stock truck). I'm pretty new to this so I don't know in what order this stuff should be done, and the search engine on the site must be different than before, it makes searching complicated. Thanks in advance, and HAPPY STROKIN'!!

I say you really need to install the gauges first before adding the DP Tuner. You could then get away without the exhaust for awhile, since you can monitor your EGTs and regulate them with the skinny pedal. You can see some pretty high EGT spikes with the performance tunes. Do the straight pipe on the 4'' or 5'', if you are wanting sound.

The first thing I would advise you to do is call your employer and have them to adjust your withholding schedule and quit giving uncle sam an interest free loan for a year! getting money back on taxes mean you paid them too much!

I would do the exhaust first, it is the foundation of everything else. Of course that would only be advisable if your credit cards are paid off and had some sort of savings.

I had the Edge Evo before I got my Dp. You would be surprised how hi the EGTs get with the Edge. I would go with the gauges first

I've been looking for a financial advisor for some time now...what are your rates? Just kidding. Actually that is the best advice I've ever got from this site. It's good to hear someone tell me that it's wise to have a little cushion in the bank before I spend every dime I own on mods! The edge has a EGT probe but I've yet to install it. Should I just install the probe and then get the guages and DP later on down the road?

Also the Edge has like 10 different parameters I can choose from: EGT, Boost PSI, Trans temp, Engine oil temp, etc. I can monitor 4 of these on the screen. Would that be sufficient to "keep an eye on things" or should I chuck it in the trash?

I went ahead and got the DP with stock exhaust and no guages (for the time being). I don't tow anything really and I haven't touched the 120HP tune. Muffler delete is going in this weekend and then I start saving for the guages.

The 250 is also just a weekend warrior. My "Harley" so to speak.

Plan for the future so you don't have to spend money twice. I can't say it enough, GAUGES GAUGES GAUGES. I finally got my gauges and even in 80E I can hit 1250 if I try hard enough, and in 120R I can get 1300 without alot of work. I would throw the Edge on eBay and get gauges and then a DP and exhaust. You might be surprised how good a price I can get you on this stuff. Don't forget to pay your credit cards off, Daniel is right, even though it isn't fun

So with the Edge monitoring those spots, trans, EGT, engine oil etc.... what are they not as accurate as a set of gauges?

Spend the money on a DP. Keep the evolution and use it as your gauges. Just set the truck to stock but leave the edge hooked up. Set it to watch the EGT, Boost & tranny temp and it will do the same thing a set of gauges would. I don't know where the edge picks up the boost reading, but if it's electrical, you'll have to change that if you add an OBA down the road.

If you have money left over, look into a shift kit and maybe a tranny cooler. After watching your temps, you'll know weather a tranny cooler or upgraded exhaust will be the next step.
