I just replaced plunger in turbo pedestal and now i think my egt may be too high. I do not have a pyrometer. I aso found and fixed 2 turbo leaks. One pre and one post. I have smoke coming off the exhaust and some rising into engine comp. I have a bullydog and manual turbo reg. I am pulling 7 lbs. more turbo now. I am concerned that a misadjustment on the plunger is my problem.
THANKS GUYS,
Michael
The plunger in the pedistal is the EBPV and won't affect boost numbers. The smoke on the exhaust is probably oil burning off from the turbo R&R I'd guess. More info needed...
What exactly did you replace?
Can you tell where the smoke is coming from? What does it smell like?
If you have a manual wastegate controller then an increase of 7psi boost wouldn't be unusual. Just make sure you aren't going much over 25 psi and you'll be fine.
It mostly smells like oil, but so many things changed when i fixed stuff i quess i got paranoid. The exhaust seems hotter by hand which may be normal now that i have all of my turbo boost back.
It seems that there is some out of the exhaust, but mostly it is on the exhaust which is why i wondered about egts. It white smoke pure white. I replaced the plunger in the pedestal and the o-ring on the front of turbo and fixed the mating on rear of turbo.
Look at all the connection on the exhaust, to see if there is oil coming out of them. If you have oil in the exhaust, might have a turbo problem. How many miles have you put on the truck sense the repair?
If it's pure white you have a combustion issue. There are more problems than the leak you were working on. What are the outside temperatures like where you are right now?
