well anyways, ive been driving it with no problems, until today, went to wash it, and pulled out of the washbay and it started sputtering, thought it was out of fuel since my gauge doesnt work right so, i put 2 gallons in it and still nothing i cant hear the fuel pump so i figured it was the relay , since someone said the fuel pump relay is a problem with these trucks.
my question is which relay is for the pump, there is a green one and black one behind the airbox towards the cab in the engine bay...
any other suggestions, on the roll back ride home i stopped to put couple more gallons in just in case and it wouldnt take 2 gallons, acting like its full...which i put 10 gallons in last night drove around town maybe 20 miles, and then this morning i went to the dump maybe 15 miles so i didnt think i was out of gas, but i figured id try that.
i just replaced one of my fuel pumps just recently, when i was trouble shooting it, i just looked at the fuses and they were all good, so then i listened for the fuel pump and the one didnt produce any sound. at that point i determined it was the fuel pump, bought a new one put it in, works like a charm. if you havnt put a fuel pump in the truck yet, i wouldnt be suprised if its the pump
ok yeah thats where am at right now, ive double checked everything, i cant hear the fuel pump, so thats kinda what im thinking...i havent checked the schrader valve yet , but if i cant hear the fuel pump i know its not pumping...
It's wired from the pump relay to the inertia switch to the pump or pumps. Even the mostly useless wiring diagrams in a Haynes or Chiltons should tell you if you have one or 2 pumps.
You need to see if you have 12 volts at the inertia switch for 2 seconds each time you turn the key from off to run.
If theres no voltage, the pump relay is the most likely problem.
alright another question, i checked the power to the pump and i have power to one plug (yellow and green) the other 3 dont have power...is this right or is it not getting power?
and any chance that it is the switch for the two tanks?
should be on drivers side under the dash left of the brake pedal on the firewall or behind the right kick panel-I can't remember which they vary from year to year
