I have asked this question before and thought I would try again. Has any body ever had any luck finding a shortbox bedside for a 78 F-150. Ford does not even make them any more so now I have to turn to the aftermarket world. I do not want to have to cut a long box bedside and really do not want use patch panels. Any where i look All they list a long box sides. If anybody knows of a company or any information on where I can get one I would greatly appretiate it. Thanx!

I bought a new 8' bed for my '79 about four years ago from a compant called "Tabco". I'm pretty sure I remember seeing short box bed sides advertised in their catalog. My bed came in 5 pieces. They claim to be the same gauge steel, and all the parts were had black electrostatic primer. If they do have your bed side and you use it, make sure you undercoat between the panels over the wheel well. I didn't undercoat mine and it rusted through after 2 years.

Hey thanks. It's been a long time since ive been in front of a computer. How can I get a hold of tabco? I really want to finish my truck and that is about the last part I need. Thanks Kenny.
No problem. I have been going nuts trying to find the recreipt. I know I had gave the catalog away some time ago, but I think I remember who I gave it to. I'll call them and try to get the phone number for you.

I got an '80 f150 that I bought from Iowa. the bed side panels and the wheel wells are rusted out. I think that I would like to replace the entire bed. How did it go replacing your bed and putting the new bed together. Also about how much did it cost? Thanks..

Hi bgood,
The bed cost me about $850.00. It came with nuts, bolts, washers, and pre-drilled holes everywhere on the bed where Ford would have used spot weld. I suppose you could spot weld it if you wanted to but the bolts worked fine for me. My Dad stopped over, and it took us about a day to assemble (a long day) We just followed the instructions. The only thing that you will need that doesn't come with the bed is a few tubes of seam sealer (comes in a caulking type tube, and can be purchased at any auto parts store).

I called them today and the person I talked to said that they don't sell a complete bed kit like what you described. Do you have like a part number or someone that you spoke with because the person that I spoke with didn't seem to know anything. Please help me...
Hi,
I purchased it about 5 years ago, so it is possible that maybe they don't sell the whole bed setup like that anymore. I was told that Ford stopped doing it because of too much damage during shipping. That's why I had to go with an aftermarket bed. I'll look again and try to find my receipt. Sorry,
Kenny
Boss 358,
If you are still looking for a 78 shortbed, I just took one off of mine and replaced it with my stepside bed. What condition are you looking for? my bed has some rust around the wheelwells and the bedfloor as some pinhole rust, but is still pretty solid. Let me know so I dont scrap it out right away.
NPD has short bed sides for the 73-79' trucks (in limited supplies). They are $404, and $450 each respectively - depending on which side is needed. This is much cheaper than I last saw them going for several years ago. They were between $800 and $1200 each as the NOS pool was drying up.....Their catlog is free, check them out (NPD is National Parts Depot).
