Replacing floorboards

I just pulled my seat and floormats out my 69 tonight. I new I was going to find rust, but I found more than counted on. Any tips on how to replace it? What I plan on doing is cutting out the rust with a die grinder and welding new metal in. Any little help would be appreciated. Thanks

[font color=red size=3]I am planning to do the same thing to my '73 this winter. Sounds like you are on the right track, cut out the old and get some new preformed floor pans and weld them in. I would suggest using a MIG wire feed welder. That is a good place to practice welding and sheetmetal work - it'll get covered up!

Replacing floorboards

Fellas, we are all on the same project. I too took a peak under my floor mats and can see daylight in a few places.
My problem is that I have ZERO experience welding and don't own any equipment. Cutting the old pan out is no problem, but.... Anyway, reckon how much a shop would charge me to weld the new pan in?
Also who is a good supplier that I could buy new pan's from?

Thanks,
Lee

My problem isn't just the floorboard, the rust started crawling up the kick panel to. Does anyone know if the replacement panels include the kick panel? My dad has a MIG welder and I have done some welding with it, but nothing like this. Well good luck with your project!

I'm interested in the kick panel replacement too. I have A LOT of rust in the floor pans and it is creeping up the kick panels. I have a couple of holes through in the panels already. In fact, I had a snake come through one on the passenger side while I was driving it a few months ago. I've considered just getting 22 ga steel and cutting and welding in replacement pieces, but I need something substantial to attach the replacement floor pans. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey sears27! It sounds like you use por15 quite a bit, are there any down sides? Have you ever had any trouble with paint coming off of the p-15? Also I read the can and they said that a rusty surface is better than a smooth surface unrusted one, well I had already cleaned and prepped the surface(nice and smooth) with a scotch-brite pad. I put that part of the project on hold till I could find someone who had worked with p-15 before. It looks like I found someone, can you tell me if the paint will stick to a nice clean surface good?

Oh Well, sorry about the semi-duplicate posts.

I've used it too, as long as you use the "metal ready" acid etch it will bond fine. Follow their instructions.

Here's a question; can you replace the pans without taking the
cab off of the frame? I've temporarilly bolted in some heavy
gauge aluminum, and will attempt to replace the floor pans next
spring or sooner if I can find a heated garage.
