1995 front hubs

I need to disassemble the front hub on my 1995 Bronco to check and grease bearing . My repair manual shows the wrong hub assembly . after removing the cap I don't seem to have a lock ring to hold the hub assembly in. I need to know how to get it out. It's a full size with a manual hub.

Both auto and manual have the same outer lock ring.

Here is a picture of both:

I took an old test light with a sharp point and bent the tip ever so slightly.

Slides right under snapring.

After you get it out, file/grind a 45 degree on both ends. it will make your life easier next time you take it apart. (It gives you an edge to get a pic under) Make sure the 45 is with the point to the center. (if you do it the other way, it will be harder to get the pic under.)

What kind of snap ring pliers would work on the outer ring?

What you need is an O-ring pick or just pick one up next time at the Dentist.

I have a '95 also and replaced my auto hubs with a manual set from Warn.

I also filed 45 degree angles on the snap rings to simplify removal (it does help). I ended up using a small screw driver to remove it the first couple of times that I had it apart.

What I did to make removal even easier was to drill a small hole in the hub so I can insert a small nail to force the ring out (it is really easy now).

I can see how that would make it easy, but it could leak grease because thats inside the o-ring.

Silicon Sealed the Hole

To prevent grease from leaking, each time I remove the ring I reseal the hole with a small dab of silicon.

It works quite well.

I realize this is an old thread but I thought I would add this in case anyone else needs it in the future.
