outer tie rod help

ive got my 6'' lift on and have to replace the dr. side outer tie rod. I took the nut off and hit the tie rod and it wont move. Do i need to get a tuning fork and pry it away or is there a easier solution?

The fork id the best option. THe joint has enough play in it unless it is completely frozen to take most of the shock the hammer will deliver.

put the nut back on til the top of the nut is flush with the top of the threads you should have ablut 1/4 inch gap between the nut and flange. then strike the top of the threads with a 3lb sledge hard. It usually takes one hit to pop it loose. by putting the nut back on it protects the threads incase you have to put it back together for some odd reason with the same joint. I have done it this way for years and never needed a fork. hope this helps.

No, you can drop the end with the wheel on the ground. It's easier that way. Make sure you mark the threads and match the thread mark on the replacement end. You want the replacemnt to be spot on.

If he put a lift on it, the alignment is going to be off anyway, and it will need to be aligned again as the springs settle anyway. I usually take the wheels off and line them up by eye and take it straight to the alignment shop.

Putting the nut back on also protects the stud from being mushroomed out and that's a bad thing because then it doesn't want to fit through the hole in the knuckle.
