I have 2000 expo 5.4 106,500k. how can i teel if my injectors are going bad? what signs can help me. i have another posting about the starting problems under 2000 expo weird starting problems for more info on what my truck is doing. thanks for any ideas
I knew my injectors started going bad when at highway speeds I gave it gas and the car had a slight shudder to it - like it was starved for gas or had a spark problem. I thought it was spark because mine has 108,00 on it and has never been changed. However, when I pulled the plugs, they were all fine looking (but replaced anyway). When I pulled the fuel rail, that's when I found 3 of my injectors to be all broken at the tip (where the fuel squirts out).
Yes i gave it a full tuneup yesterday. I am having weird starting problems. and it does it at random times. it wil not fully start so on 3rd try i have to give it gas to fully start and then it runs and idle's fine while driving.
There is a schrader valve with a cap that screws off on the fuel rail, remove the cap and attach a fuel pressure gauge that you can purchase at an auto parts store for about 20 bucks or maybe they will even have a loaner, after installing the gauge turn the key on (not starting) and read the pressure should come up to 30 to 40psi ( not sure what the spec without looking up) then start and see what the running pressure is.
