high idle

high idle

I got home today and put my 98 expedition in park, and it stayed idling at 2000 rpm. After i shut it off, and let sit for 5 mins and restarted it was fine.
Any ideas?

A sticking IAC valve or a leak in the PCV vacuum hose come to mind.

The IAC valve or idle air control valve controls how much air is allowed into the mix at idle. It is a popular problem, that can be taken off and cleaned or replaced. The valve is attached to the plenum, either on the back side on a 5.4 or the front side of the plenum on a 4.6. It has a hose and wires plugged into it.
