hey guys. 98 XLT Xcab, 4.6 romeo, auto tranny. It has 190k on it and i changed the plugs circa 175k. Since then, my #3, and ONLY my #3 has been giving me problems with working itself loose and blowing the wire off. Anybody else have this problem and what is the torque on those things. What gets me is that it's only the #3. Thanks guys!
I Kinda figured someone would step up with the torque specs, but evidently not,If it were me,Id pull the plug, and take a good look at the threads in the head(and plug as well)...Ive seen posts about plugs blowing out,and the remedys have been anything from "cleaning the threads in the head" to total head replacement. If the threads in the head look good,I might suggest trying some plugs that have a "sealing washer" thats on the base.It will likely require changing plug brands, but If memory serves some of the Champion series had these washers. If however the threads in the head are stripped,I have doubts that anything short of a "retap" or head replacement is gonna do.....
Maybe my lame response will prompt someone else out there to give you a good viable suggestion... and shoot me down in flames!
Well jeez, he posted at 05:30....nobody's up then except Burgulars and Bad Women!
The last plug that gave me that kind of trouble was in my 56 Ford with a 292 engine.
One plug came out about three times. I finally torqued it down to whatever the book said and it held.
