Diesels are junk...stay away from them

there now there will be 100 posts by tonight!

Seriously...just kidding...

The Ex is an incredible vehicle...I primarily tow my 9000# travel trailer with mine. The interior space is incredible for my family during our long vacation trips. We routinely spend 12-14 hours in our truck when going to and from our destinations...no one is cramped and everyone is relaxed...plus we can access our gear in the back while traveling...not many vehicles you can say that about.

If you are looking at a 2003...I'd recommend steering clear of the 6.0L in that year...look for a 7.3L if you want a 2003. Some of the earlier 6.0L's seemed more prone to issues...a 2005 Ex with 6.0L while it can still have issues...is more apt to be a very reliable one for you...make sure you post the VIN number on here and ask for an OASIS report so you know how your prospective Ex started its life under Ford warranty...

Good luck with your search...an Ex is a unique beast that only so many of us get to enjoy and appreciate.

Joe.

Just a word of warning, If you get one you will be hooked, believe me. I bought my first and later sold it. That emptiness inside led to the second one. So don't say I didn't warn you. Good Luck with your find and welcome to FTE.

i just bought an 02 EX with 7.3l diesel...I love it already, and I'm modding it out now. So much fun.

Putting on my exhaust and leveling kit this weekend.

I really kind of hate SUV's. I've been a van guy for a long time, not that I liked them, but they fit my needs. I had a car too then when I didn't need the van to save on gas. I ended up getting bigger and bigger trailers, so my vans got bigger too. I used a used shuttle bus for about six years, and it was great to use as a tow vehicle. It had a 7.3PSD, and that just was the crowning jewel for me too. Much better mileage over the gas vehicles I had, and it was just more durable. I didn't have to replace gas engine things like cracked manifolds, coils, etc.

I needed a replacement for the bus. It was old and had seen better days. Similarly, a diesel pick up would have been a good replacement opportunity, but it was limited for people carrying. So, I set out to look for an Excursion.

In the end, I so enjoy it. I think some have said that the later models have better sound proofing, and I think I agree. It's very, very comfortable. I've carried eight people in mine no problem. Some of those people were some big guys too, and it was still a comfortable ride to dinner.

Dual heat/AC, ours has an aftermarket DVD player. I like the stock exhaust sound, and I'll stick with that. I have a 203* thermostat, just like I had in my E350 Super Duty. And I have a DP Tuner and a Ford Transmission Cure. Next, I'd like a Adrenaline HPOP and a new set of E rated tires, but I need to burn these down a bit.

Good luck!
