I took my SD to a dealer today kind of shopping around. Not really wanting to get rid of it but if the price is right....... I was pricing a Raptor. My truck is a 2003 XL, has 10,700 miles on it (hasn't been driven much), 6 speed manual, 4x4, tilt, speed control. Things I have added are Nitto Terra Grapplers tires 285s, chrome wheels, 2" leveling kit, New stereo with CD/mp3 etc. Has a small dent about 3" long in the passenger side bed (outside). I was offered a whole $3,600 as a trade in. They wouldn't budge. When the guy asked me what I was looking for, I told him I thought at minimum $11,000, he laughed and said, "you aren't getting that for any truck these days, even if it's only a year old" and walked off.
Am I that far behind the times? A truck with 10,000 miles on it is only worth $3,600? WoW!! Looks like I will be keeping this thing forever. Not that it's a bad thing but man. $3,600?
I think $3600 is real low, however, there is no real trade value for these trucks right now. I was offered $13K for mine on a trade 3 years ago during a good economy.
im guessing with the options its a reg. cab.. which would make the truck really a hard sell.
a XL in reg. cab appeals to very few people these days..
while the price was low, u can be sure u'd never see 11K$ for it either...
the extra low miles helps you, but not much...
p.s. keep in mind the price on the new Raptor will be full blown retail at first to.. so you'll get hosed on that price aswell..i bet not one will sell for les then MSRP for the first production run...
Well, to be honest, I wasn't expecting 11K but that was my counter to him. I really thought maybe 9K or so. I think I could sell it on the street for maybe 11, on a good day. I was just pricing the Raptor, wasn't seriously considering it. I may later when it has the 6.2 in it. Saw it at the auto show this weekend, really impressive piece of machinery if you like that kind of thing, which I do.
You are correct. It is a regular cab, long bed. No power windows, locks. Basically a work truck that I started throwing options on after I bought it. I am getting ready to put headers on it and still have the Whipple charger that I used to have on it. I don't really plan on parting with it. Just testing the waters.
Never be insulted.
It's a business and he's in it to make a profit at the expense of those who walk the lot.
He knows what a no optioned truck will bring him, and how long it will sit on his lot.
If you don't like what's offered turn around and walk out.
Personally, I think your truck sounds great....super low miles....basic no freels....reg cab...manual....4x4. Of course I also have an XL reg cab. There are a number of people who would love to have a truck like that. These are folks that want the basics and a truck for work duties. Farm/Ranch, horse/cattle operations or those who tow on a regular to semi-regular basis. Plus with no freels there are less problems...when is the last time someone complained about the door locks not working or the cab lights staying on due to a faulty relay on an XL truck? The XL offers a refreshing simplicity in an over optioned accessory automotive world. Reg cab trucks are growing in popularity again, people who don't need seating for an entire family and looking for something easier to part when they go out, but still need the use of a truck bed.
The XL is not a bare bones truck, it was just designed with the KISS Principal in mind.
Matter of fact, I would bet that either someone has or will contact you via Email or PM asking about buying your truck from you.
I agree with what most people said above. The Used truck market is really crazy now. There are a ton of deals out there private party. As far as the low miles, it only matters on a private party sale. The dealer is low balling you as they are looking at having that truck for awhile. If you need to sell, sell it private party and it should sell if priced decent quick. Always sell your rig private party, then hit the dealer with cash in hand and start the haggling.... Man i hate dealing with car dealers and sales guys! can't tell you how many times i have almost knocked out a sales man or manager for acting like an a@@....
Nope. I may put it back on in the future. Actually, I was looking at having a turbo fabbed up from a local custom turbo shop, that's why I pulled it mainly. The turbo shop said they could do two small turbos that come from Mazda I think they said. Still toying with that. Next time I have $8,000 lying around, I may just do that.
I'm with jonrjen. If you do want a price on it, advertise it in the back of a boating magazine or at a marina and specify the towing capacity... Skip the middle man and go directly to the people who have a job to do.
