body seams

I have a 72 ford truck and I plan on painting it this summer. I would like to fill the seams on the back of the cab and at the very back of the bed. What would be the best way to go about filling these seams. Also my drip molding is in bad shape on the passenger side. Can I fix these or will I need to shave them off, I would like to keep them if possible.

body seams

JW,
I have the same problem with my 71, but here is what I am planning on doing when I start all the body work. I am going to take the truck apart and any body seems that I have, will be welded (tig) and ground smooth. The seams must be rust FREE as that cancer will come back.... If you have a nice clean surface it should be no problem... Now as for the Drip rail, Mine is on the drivers side and heavily pitted. I will grind as much as possible. If that means grinding it off and remanufacturing a new one, well then that is what I am going to have to do. Most important thing to remember, remove all the corrosion,,,,, it will come back.... and treat the metal with some kind of rust preventative before you paint....

Hope that helps,

If one takes the time to do something right the first time will not have to do it over a second.
