newbee here

so i just bought an 04 expedition eddie bauer, loaded every option but navigation. and its got a few minor things not functioning. i need some advise on where to start the diagnosing process. i already hit the fuse block in the right kick panel. no blown fuses there. on to the problems

the heated/cooled seats don't work.

the reverse sensors don't function, nothing happens when i get close to something.

the rear wiper doesn't move with the motor, i can hear the motor moving but the wiper doesn't move, i can move it by hand but its not connecting with the motor.

other than those little things its a great truck! i think its the best thing iv ever bought. i look forward to learning alot from this forum and will be posting here alot from now on.

If it were me, for the seats I would look at the switch or a pulled or broken wire under the seat maybe. Where is the switch? maybe something got spilled on it before you bought it. The reverse sensors, again I would look under the rear bumper and trace the wires and look for any broken wires. When I bought my 97 the running board light wires were broken in many places. No problems with my 03 except for the crazy mirrors.
The rear wiper shaft may be stripped. Try to remove the wiper arm and look at the shaft. I think you can access the motor through the inside cover if you need to remove it.
Good luck

If you just bought it did you get a 30 or 90 day warranty or something of the sort? If you did go right to the dealer and tell them that they sold you a car with some bum features and you would like them fixed. If they refuse, then TELL THEM they sold you a car with some bum features and they WILL be fixed.

Make sure your reverse lights are working. The sensors only turn on when you're in reverse. So if the lights aren't working then the backups sensors will not either.

Remove the cap at the bottom of the rear wiper arm. Observe if the nut turns when the wiper switch is on. If it does then the splines inside the wiper arm could be stripped, or the nut could just be loose. Usually you can just replace the wiper arm if the splines are stripped and the problem will be solved.

Both seats don't work? What happens when you hit the switches - do they light up or does nothing happen? It is unusual if both are out since they are fused and switched independantly.

neither the passenger or driver heated/cooled seats work. the "dial" 1-5 lights up with the parking/head lamps, but the hot/cold buttons do not light up when pressed. owners manual says the hot will light up red and the cold will light up blue when pressed nothing happens.

There is a TSB for the seats not working. I just had my 04 Navi front drivers seat redone under extended Warranty.

Do you have the owners manual? If not, they can be turned on and off by using the information center or what ever they call it. Where you reset mileage and status.

yes and i already tried that. there is no option for the rear sensors.. i followed the instructions perfectly and all the other options were there but not the reverse sensors. is it a possibility that my eddie bauer expedition didnt come with the rear bumper with reverse sensors and the previous owner added the bumper with them? maybe got rear ended or something. i thought all EB expeditions came with the back up sensors?

On the reverse sensor issue, what does the message center say when you put the truck in reverse?

Do you have a switch on the dash for park assist? On the 03 explorer there is switch on the dash to turn it off, on that vehicle it is not controlled through the message center.
