Nice work!!.......It's amazing what one can do with a idea, a few tools and the will to make it happen.....alot of satisfaction to be had by making something versus buying something!........Later, Doug
Looks cool to me... Yes it would be nice to have all that extra equipment but it is hardly justified for a one time job. Point is, you did it with what you have. It's far too easy to get caught up in that equipment acquisition frenzy. I know this all too well, I'm up to my ears in stuff now and I find it hard to resist buying things. I have a 1,400 pound 50" pinch roller that I keep pushing around to get out of my way. I bought it for scrap value to use when I really get into my trucks which will probably be this year. I have been fighting the urge to get an English wheel, a box brake and a seam roller which I will need but there just is no room for them at present.
here is a pic of my dash extension and console in process with the ashtray (I don't smoke and I don't want anyone else smoking inside) and the glove box door (the box was ~ 1 1/2" deep due to the AC behind it so was pretty useless) filled. I have a brushed SS panel that covers the flat portion of the dash, and the console has a brushed SS face plate. I am debating on shaving the hump off the dash and mounting my instruments in a line across the SS flat part of the dash. ??
ah he|| I don't know why I can't insert a picture or a URL, but you can see the pix in my "console" album.

Nice work AX. I like the way you used the tube stock. What is it and what did you use to bend it? The radius looks too tight for a conduit bender.
It is 1/2" conduit that I sanded the zinc off of. I bought a used commercial tubing bender on ebay with dies for a number of different size tubing and radii. That is the smallest size radius for that tubing. I bent it in two mirror image pieces and welded it together in the center. I welded on tabs to attach the sides to. the sides are 3/32" aluminum that will be covered with upholstery or carpet. The tubing is now painted. I made a matching piece for around the shifter. That was also bent in two 1/2 circles and welded together to make a donut. A glove leather shifter boot finishes it off.

I am assuming that it is ridgid conduit because it looks to be larger than 1/2" thin-wall. It would also imagine that thin-wall would kink when bent that tight.
You could cut out about 1" an weld in an indent to make the glove box & ash tray work, that's how my dash extension is and the one I made previously was the same to allow the use of the ash tray & glove box.

Nope, thinwall from Home Depot. My bender is like a giant version of a brake line bender. It mounts in a vise it has an inner die with a roller follower on the arm.
I'm with you AX, its amazing how many truck parts can be found at the hardware store. I also have thinwall conduit on my truck (tailgate), I also have some rigid conduit (a 90 degree sweep as part of my upper radiator hose) and some PVC conduit (a 90 degree sweep in my fuel fill system). Some conduit hangars as lower steering column mounts, etc, etc, etc. Heck I even have some toilet seat hinge parts in use....lol
