Just push DOWN, then turn. Even a kid can do that.

You can use channellocks if you're not retarded about it. Just grip the retainer barely hard enough to push it down and turn. Any resistance= STOP.
If everything is aligned right it should pop right out without any effort. It's thin sheet metal and it's easy to mangle the locking slots.
