OK I know the trip computer subject has gotten beat to death but I could not find an answer to my question. I recently installed a new circuit board in my computer (after repairing mine 3 times) and it works great with the exception that the miles to empty reads at most 250-260 and I go 400 miles. The MPG is almost dead on just the miles to empty. I figured it would recalibrate itself but it never has. Do you think I can reset it somehow or recal it. Thanks in advance.
Did yours ever reset/calibrate itself? I just replaced mine, the old one had some resistors that fell off. I lost them when I took it apart.
I had to calibrate the compass by driving in a large circle about 4 laps. The Miles to Empty shows about 280 something. The old one would show 500 & something to start with.
did you unhook that batteries for about a good 15-20 mins? When you unhook turn the headlights on to ensure complete discharge of energy in the system.
Maybe this will reset everything. It will also cause your trans and engine to re-learn the driving strategy.
These overhead trip computer modules must have the fuel tank size programmed in to them for the distance to empty to work properly. This can only be done (on the 2003/2004 years at least) by the dealer with a programmer that connnects through the OBD diagnostic connector under the dash. The "as built" data for the trip computer must be changed to match the tank size you have. If you need more information, I"ll try to dig up an old posting I had on this topic. I replaced by stock 29 gallon tank with a transfer flow 46 gallon, so I needed to address this issue also.
