Def Question, miles to empty

I was getting the count down from 500 miles to empty on my def level. Today I started my truck and the count down was at 450 miles to empty, as I pulled away from my house, about 500 yards, the count down went to 99 mile to empty and limp mode.

Has anyone experience this?

2014 F250 Lariat CCLB with 42k miles.

I haven't, but I no longer use DEF. The DEF level in these trucks is currently not able to be accurately monitored. That's all I can tell you. There's so full it has spilled all over you, half and "oh crap you are out and limping along". Best I can tell you is fill it up and it will reset eventually and you will be fine. It's a huge gripe from a lot of people.

that is pretty quick jump.

So did you fill it up? If so how much did it take.

Should pretty much take close to 4 gallons.

Going to take it the the dealer on Tues. and let them figure it out, they told me Ford fills the DEF tanks full so I paid for it and they are going to do it right.

If I had a gallon of fuel for every time I heard these trucks come full of DEF from the factory, I'd be a happy man

Ford factory does not but some dealers do during PDI because they take extra care of their customers.

Mine did. I guess that's a point (or 2) for my dealer.

A lot of dealers do it, but not FoMoCo.

So...I think your biggest of issues was it was not filled from the dealer.

You should be good now and it should reset.

My biggest concern is that this happens on the highway and no def in 99 miles.

I guess in that case I should carry a spare jug.

When I am traveling out of the area I take a couple of jugs with me.

I don't carry them at home because of the storage temps. They would get too hot in the truck.

You should be getting plenty of warning though before running out. I suspect because of not being full in the first place it was a big confused.

I use the ford fill spout. It will work on most any of the refill jugs. I just rinse it and put it in a Ziploc for reuse.
