Got a problem

Howdy all! I was looking over the forum and seems there is a lot of knowledge here. I was hoping someone would be so kind as to aid me with my problem. I have a 1976 F250 Super-Cab with a 360, and noticed my steering sucked one day. Got to looking it over and found that the steering coupling is absolutley shot. So I got a new one but can't seem to get at the old one enough to remove it. I have a pic if anyone can help. I have vise-grips on the shaft near the firewall and a couple of boxed ends on the nuts and bolts. I have been putting down quite a bit of torque but all I seem able to do is turn the wheel Help?

It may be easier to remove the steering column from the truck...unbolt from the steering box, remove the two cover bolts, romove the two bracket bolts, unplug the t/s switch, remove the dust boot from firewall and then pull the column out.... it may take a little longer to do this, but it may avoid the aggrevation...atleast you could hold it still with a vise....good luck...
