Fifth Wheel Capabilities
I hate to ask this but, based on your experience, what should I expect to pay for a CC Lariat F450 4X4? Your's looks very nice in your avatar. With all the deals, discounts, etc., I don't know how much to expect to pay off the $61,000 price tag my local dealer has posted on two of them.
i was going to send you a private message but you don't have enough posts yet to receive them.

I have a 2000 F350 Superduty DRW 7.3 turbo diesel with a Banks power pack, with 18K Reese 5th wheel hitch and tow a 39ft 08 Fuzion mod 393 toyhauler. With the Banks installed I have no problems towing up hill. Fuzion is also a great toyhauler.
These areas are what many F450 owners like so much more than the F350 offers. But are they just overkill or is it a big difference when pulling 15,000 lbs. with about 3,000 lbs. in the bed of the truck?
Fuzion 302 and 08 F250
I am on the verge of buying a used 08 F350 DRW for all the reasons mentioned above--I also am "right at the spec" on payload.
While towing to Las Cruces last weekend, we hit a "roller" at a bridge on I-25, going about 70mph. The left rear bottomed and launched the truck and trailer sideways, resulting in a very scary moment as the 5th wheel started bounding left and right.
My 5th wheel weighs 13k loaded, but the F250 payload just isn't up to the game if something goes wrong.

How do you feel about your setup regarding all other areas? Braking, stability, etc..

My Fuzion 5th wheel weighs 17500 loaded (checked on CAT scale). Stability wise I have no problems. Braking is another story. Even with rv braking, my F350DRW wears through front brake pads at 20,000 miles. To address this problem I am going to install a Banks Exhaust brake. I have not had any transmission related problems, however i am going to install a Banks Power SmartLoc Trans Brake system. Acceleration is decent under tow, gas mileage is 12 miles/gal under tow and 14.5 otherwise.
I think the much larger brakes on the F450 are what I've heard about more than anything from F450 owners. I was even told by my local Ford service manager that the 450s are governed to not exceed around 80-85 mph. He said stopping power is a huge focus of the F450s.
By the way, from what I've also heard, those are pretty darn good mpg numbers you're getting there.
