The 400 is a torque beast. With any cam other than stock, and a 4 barrel intake, mebbe some headers it can be a beast. One buildup I read did some porting and with a 2 barrel carb, ported heads and stock exhaust manifolds it made 380hp, and 468lbft of torque. That was with a comp cams high energy or Xtreme energy 268 cam-nothing fancy.
Every bad thing I heard of the 400 was due to neglect, or bad engine building.
With some knowledge, and the right parts, its basically a 400ci Cleveland.
The Engine Masters challenge, a 400 Ford derivative won, and other 400's dominated-but thats getting into aluminum heads and such, still=Potential!
What are your plans with either engine? Just throw in the truck?
Chad I'm going to stay with the 400.There is too much to buy to drop a 302 im.
