I read some place that if you rid the engine of both the CAT and MUFFLER, the VGT will not function properly because the "EBP exhaust back pressure" sensor will regard it as an exhaust leak and give you low power?
This is supposedly from an ASE ford tech that posted a response on another forum for a guy that straight piped his 6.0L.
It sounds far fetched to me......what do you guys think?
Just want to make sure I don't do this and realize it was a mistake.
If it is too big, it will read not enough back pressure and cause the egr valve to open a hair and flow off idle causing a smoking situation at idle and on take off until the turbo can clean it up. Too many people are straight piped without issues. Just make sure you dont go 5" out the gate. I hate that my rpm band got moved up 300 rpms. It sounds better than a 4" though!
dont quote me on this but I think depending on what flash your truck has the ebp sensor may possibly be removed from the whole strategy anyway, so it is possible that it would be a mute point....
Not sure what flash it has. The last time it was @ the dealer for significant work (head gaskets) was 1 1/2 years ago. It was @ the dealer 2 months ago for a MAP sensor that the POS dealer denied me warranty on.....a whole other story. If I'm not mistaken, when they hook up the diagnostic machine, doesn't it automatically upload the new flash into the vehicle ECM?
