My cd player in my 04 has gone bad. i have a cd player out of a 05 f250. Will this fit. The look to be the same size. I know mine has the hair pins on the side and the 05 does not but is there a bracket in my truck to bolt this newer model into....
No, they're different size, and mount differently in the dash. The 99-04 radios mount in the dash bezel and clip in, the hairpins you're referring to release the radio, the radio has to come out to pull the dash bezel. 05 and up mounts using 2 bolts on either side of the radio, about 1/2 way back along the sides of the radio, the 05-07 dash bezel pulls off separate of the radio. I'd look into an aftermarket unit versus an OE, you'll get alot more bang for the buck.
Your 04 radio is slightly smaller than a true double DIN like the 05 factory head unit. It shouldn't be much of a problem getting it to work but you'll have to do some work to make it fit. Check out the following thread about how to install a double DIN. Granted it is an Expedition and not an SD but it probably has some good info for you about it.
The only real issue I see is getting it wired up. A quick check of the Scosche website reveals that the wiring harnesses are different. It doesn't look to me like it will be plug and play, but you should be able to make it work if you really want to. I would echo the other response and recommend that you sell your 05 head unit on ebay and get an aftermarket unit. It will be less headache and in the end, you'll have a better system.
05 up radios will not fit in 99-04 trucks, unless you don't mind ripping out and replacing the entire dash structure (the 05 radio won't even fit in the opening).
Sell the 05 radio on ebay and get a different one that will work in your truck.
