Hey guys,
I've got a 1988 2WD F-250. Apparently, the steering shaft has got a pin inside, right where the coupler shaft enters the steering sleeve coming from the cabin right? (At least this is what my mechanic says). It might have fallen or broken the last time the coupler rubber was replaced.
Anyway, this supposedly existent pin or lock is missing, and this is causing a somewhat annoying play.
I don't know what this is called or
where I can get it.
I would also like to know what it looks like since all I have is a drawing from my mechanic. (Bear in mind I live overseas and he doesn't speak English)
I'm actually trying to get a hold of the missing "PIN", which I only assume is the name for what is missing, according to what I was told)
This pin apparently secures the collapsable shaft and eliminates "play" when steering.
Maybe the mechanic doesn't know what he's talking about and I'm only trying to describe an inexistent part.... this is my concern too.
Please help.
Yes they can be wrong. I had a mechanic tell me that my slop was the gearbox then he said it was the console itself then after i told him its the collapsable shaft and replaced it he said oh. Same guy then says wow i didnt know your truck was geared so low i could only go 35 mph in 4th gear. I said well you should have taken it out of 4lo his response was i thought the lights were broke . haha
