OK guys I know this will be biased as hell but I will ask anyway. Which truck was better. When I mean better I mean setup and design. They are kinda the same wheelbase wise. I know the chevy came in 2wd also. My friend had a 84 blazer in HS. I loved that thing. But they seemed to rust out pretty quick. Just like the 80's Fords did. But even here in Buffalo I swear since I have had my 89bronco I have seen 30 broncos to about 8 blazers. Just wanted some opinions. I'm not looking to bash the Blazer in any way.
Honestly they were great competitors. Personally I love the Bronco and the Ramcharger. Now the Blazer was a great SUV until....redesign. They must have had a stereotypical Jim Gaffigan idiot on their design team like, "Hey I got a idea. Let's make our cool SUV tiny." That really did it for me when it became almost an "economy" SUV with optional 4-doors. I'm sure it was great for some people to have an SUV on the same platform as the S-10, but it really lost the 2-door SUV war which I will say goes to the Bronco. The Ramcharger was dropped too soon and the Bronco was killed, but it was the last of a breed. Now all we have are Jeep Wranglers as 2-door SUVs and they were not competition after Ford made the Big Broncos, imo.
I like the Broncos, my dad had an 86 Bronco, buddies dad had an 89 Blazer, Bronco kicked its *** in all aspects, that Bronco is the vehicle that made me love Ford trucks, before that I was a chevy boy.
I really liked all the Broncos, but for modding the fullsize Blazer can't be beat. Basicly bolt in 1 ton running gear, lift, tires, gears and lockers and you have an awesome offroad machine.
It could be had in gas or diesel with the TH-350, TH-400, or 700R4, what's not to like?
The much-maligned Hummer H2 is basically the same thing, a Tahoe with 2500HD powertrain and actually some serious upgrades. It's "image" ruins it.
While 2-door SUV's are long out of fashion here, the Ramcharger was still built and sold in Mexico long after it was discontinued in the US/Canada. Even the Wrangler comes with four doors now, yuck!
I actually just saw a ramcharger. You never see them around here. I love the blazers I like the 4x4 suburbans more though. In Buffalo the Fords rust but the blazers seem to rust just as bad. Doesnt make sense. My friends rusted out bad. But the full size pickups didnt rust as bad. I like them all. The ramcharger is actually really cool looking. F-ing Dodge!
while the name "blazer" moved on to the s10 blazer
True but it just didn't seem right...plus the 2 door tahoe was not the same to me. Don't get me wrong. Two door Tahoes look sharp, but it just wasn't the same.
for eas eof modding..hands down chevy wins....for easiest and best high revving race engines with least amount of work? hands down chevy wins.... but i think old fords look much cooler and I honestly believe that in ahead to head compettion the ford is gonna come out on top. by that i mean you may run the ford 225,00 miles and the chevy 200,00 miles which is still nothin to scoff at. 35o's and 454's are respectable engines. so is the 4.3 v6.
buddy of mine had a 74 k5 blazer w/350/3spd auto/4x. excellant vehicle. had the fiberglasss top that got replaced summers by the hard to put down old soft top. no rollover hoop or half roof like later trucks had.
at 50k he put on cepaks and oversized tires. looked great. great truck to cruise in and look down into cars and look at female legs in skirts. (remember when women wore skirts? nah, your all too young.)
Buddy had a K5. I had a C10. Both were the t*ts when new. But, they both turned to turds with age and mileage. Nieghbors Bronco outlasted everything around that I admired in GM. So, needless to say, I'm driving Fords and I have yet to replace my new in 1994 F-150. My buddy? Two Suburbans, and now a F-150 also. No slams, just fact.
BTW, does anyone remember what a white Bronco looks like on TV?
I haven't seen a Ramcharger in years. A friend at church has one he bought new. It sits out in his backyard, according to him anyway. He doesn't drive it any longer as it needs an engine, and he doesn't have the $.
