Most aftermarket "chrome thingy" air cleaners are real shy of filter media capacity. Mine originally used a filter that's less than half that tall, and seemed to be restricting the ground-pounding raw HP of my 239-inch V8, so I went thru the NAPA paper catalogs to find that one. At high altitude, you need all the filter area you can get.
I just finished rebuilding my carburetor on my 1955 223 I-6, and from my research it is supposed to be a Holley 1904 Bronze type color. So I used Duplicolor Dark Bronze Mist and finished taping off and painting the carb. I must say it looks freaking awesome and I will post pics soon.
Anyway, I just finished sandblasting my airliner / filter housing and its associated parts and I am ready to paint them now. So what color should the air cleaner be painted? I assume it is Black or Ford Blue, but I don't know for sure. Any advice would be great.
Also, where do I get a good air filter for this air cleaner? The stock one that has been in it has an inner and outer ring of chicken wire with some type of metal gauze filtering material inside. Any advice on where to get the correct air filter for this truck? Thanks.
I wanted to reach out and see if you still have pictures of your carb work and what you ended up doing for an air cleaner. i am in the process of installing a 223 in my 52 F1 and have a complete carb and oil bath housing cover but no base plate. I'm wondering if you have any pictures of the assembly and how it all goes together and what you did to get yours going.
