Hey guys, searched other threads but couldn't find this particular issue. My '98 F-150 4.6L with 150,000 miles has started to squeak when I put the truck in reverse. Only started doing this as the weather has warmed up this past week...The noise appears to be originating where the drive shaft and the rear axle come together. I dont see lubrication points and I did check the transmission fluid and the level appears fine. Any ideas or is there already an existing post on this issue? LOVE this site, has saved me thousands of dollars in repair work! Any advice is greatly appreciated!!! I love this truck and am not ready to part with it
I second the suggest to change the u-joints, just pull the drive shaft, a few snap rings and pop it out. save the 150 bucks and do it yourself it's not that hard to do.
I'm not sure but i do believe that they make u-joints with grease fittings on them, however, i went to replace mine and i didn't not receive any with grease fittings.
Thanks SOOOOOOO much for the advice guys. I will get the U joint replaced this week. I really am thankfull to have access to this knowledge base...You guys are the best!!!
Your right, you can get u-joints with grease nipples and without. If in stock get ones with grease nipples. Just changed my rear u-joint today.
Had to heat the pinion flange a little at each bolt. Impact wouldn' t get it on its own. Good luck.
