Hi all, I am needing to replace parts of the floor pans in my 1970 F250 and I don't weld. I really can't justify buying a Mig as I don't have a need to weld very often. Also don't have the time to learn how. Now I know that nothing will beat welding for installing the sheet metal but,.... I just need comments on how well these fancy Epoxys work or don't work! I have found one called "Poxyweld" that I may try.
Thanks,
Lee
Hi, 3M makes a panel adhesive that they actually glue quarter panels on with don't know how much it is but a friend of mine has a body shop and some of the cars that come in are glued from the factory so he has to glue new panels on to match. It takes over night to cure but that stuff really holds the main thing is to get it really clean and don't use galvanized metal for patches. John
I just fixed my floor pans without welding. I had surface rust that didn't go all the way thru but had some pin head sized pitts. I use a wire brush, stripper, sand paper to strip it to bare metal. Then I used Por15 to coat the whole pan area on both sides. Por15 allows you to use fiberglass mat and/or metal A/B putty to fill in holes and they say it's water tight and will last for many many years. This is the stuff that most use on the frame of a resto project. It paints on like real thick sticky paint. I used about 1/3 of my quart can to do both sides.
i dont know about not welding a floor pan
on a 70s model truck because if it was welded origanaly
it should be welded back in.
ive never heard of a floor being glued since it is
part of your cabin structure, 1/4 panels, door skins, roof turrets.some modern cars mabey.
better to overlap floorpan if only repairing
a section and fully weld section at a time.
or replace whole floor pan at factory spot welds.
The floor in my f150 was rusting out so what i did was take some sheet metal and cut it to size. Then I screwed it on with self tapping sheet metal screws. They stick out like 3/8" on the bottom, but who is gonna see it...? I then snblasted underneath and put a undercoating on to prevent the same thing from happening.
