for a little more confusion,my 95 5.0 flareside has the overdrive button and the 4r70w tranny. Not even sure why this truck has overdrive, with the stupid 3.07 gears in it,I don't think the engine would be turning anywhere near anything that would be considered high rpms even if the tires were stock size. I can cruise at 75 mph on the interstate and only be turning 2500 rpms with overdrive off!!
I don't have the owners manual for my '94 but there was one in the '93. In the manual...there are two automatic transmission covered..the AOD and the E4OD.
So it sounds like these were the only two options for that year and that is what led me to believe that the OP's tranny in the '92 was an AOD.
As for your transmission, 1994 and later vehicles with four speed automatic transmissions will all have an Overdrive Cancel Switch and a P-R-N-OD-2-1 shifter pattern, but may have either an E4OD or a 4R70W transmission. All 4.2L, 4.6L and some 5.0L engines use the 4R70W transmission, while diesel, 4.9L, 5.4L, 5.8L, 6.8L and 7.5L vehicles always use E4OD’s. You can measure the transmission fluid pan to determine which transmission you have if identification information is not available. A 4R70W transmission pan has an overall length of just under 15 inches, while an E4OD pan is much larger, measuring about 20 inches in overall length.
I found this info at http://www.becontrols.com/tech/ch6e4odinfo.htm
I wasn't questioning whether my transmission was a 4r70w,I know it is,i have changed the fluid in it. I was just saying the 4r70w also has the o/d cancel switch.
