I am going to be building and putting on an H-pipe on my dual exhaust system, the only problem is where should it go? I have heard that if you don't get the h-pipe put equal distance from each header it won't do any good. Well my problem is the collectors on my headers only leave about 8 inches or so before you run into the tranny crossmember. So after that I have the pipe routed to the passenger side because the gas tank is in the way on the drivers side. So if I want to put it equal distance from each header I would have to fit it between collector and crossmember.
So my two questions are:
Can I put the h-pipe directly after the header collector or is that too close to make a difference?
Can I put the h-pipe after the driver side comes over to the passenger side, even though the drivers side pipe would be 1-2 feet longer?
I am wanting the most benefit out of this I can get so if one option doesn't work just tell me. My exhaust system is flowtech longtube headers, into 2.25 inch pipe that goes out the back into 3.5 inch SS tips. No cats, no mufflers, just straight pipe.
So by putting it right after the collectors I will still get the benefit of slightly more torque maybe and a change in the sound? I didn't know whether putting it right after the collectors would do any good because exhaust gas velocity may be too high or something, but if you think that it would still do some good then I will try that. I am trying to get rid of some terrible popping, blatting noise that happens at different rpms for each side.
I got an H pipe on mine...You cant put it before the trans cross member because the trans is in the way...We put ours right after the cross member but it dosnt have side tank because we removed it...So i dont know where you could put it ??? Lew
Ya, if I was to put it in front of the cross member, I would have to bend it down a little bit to clear the transmission, but I don't think that would be to hard. Its not really the gas tank that is in the way it is the transfer case, if I didn't have that it would be easier.
How does an H-pipe effect sound, because I just put flowtech red hot glasspacks on it and now it seems to quiet, so would an h-pipe further the quietness or would it make it more rumbly?
The h pipe will just give you the sound of all 8cly out of each pipe...With glaspacs & no cats & no mufflers it should be loud..... The only way your going to get a good sound is to have a good cam with chambered mufflers,,& shorter exhaust.....Thats just MOP
So it shouldn't really quiet it down much then? I suppose my exhaust is loud to most people, but I just went from straight pipes with nothing, to straight pipes with 18" glasspacks and it sounds a whole lot quieter now, especially at idle, when you open her up it still sounds pretty good though. Thanks.
From what I have read and seen, it is best to put it as close the engine as possible. But I have seen it just behind the tranny on cars, I think I have seen that on HorsePower TV. so I guess that is a viable place to put it.
