I just saw some flexable plastic 'paint to match' ones with about 1 1/2 ~2" flairs and they looked great. I think they were Bushwackers.
Avoid the cheap ones that are 'one size fits all' go with the name brand ones specific to the model you have. I think these were PVC plastic and flexable so as to not crack.
If you have to drill, paint the hole afterwards to prevent rust.
