so what you guys think for fender flares. looking at oe style or street flares from bushwacker, anyone know where cheapest place to get em or another company to try?
im sure im not gonna tell you anythink you dont already know but its worth saying. Fender flares are excelent for protecting your truck from rocks and grime kicked up by your tires on the road, but if you live in an area where they salt the snot out of the roads like they do here in Michigan during the winter that salt gets trapped in between the flares and the fenders causing them to rust out. ive had a few guys stop and ask me where i got mine from just because they had rust they wanted to cover up lol. Sorry for the long drug out comment
yeah i know about the salt thing and i live in northern wisconsin and ther never shy on salt. but i had em on my chevy in hign school and i loved em and ready to finally get em for my f250. the salt is so bad im getting bottom part of truck re done this spring i know 8 years old but just started peeling little bit and want to fix sooner than later
Same problem here shes 10 years old and just now starting to show her age. Bottom of the doors went from rust free to rust galore in 2 months, it ticks me off every time i look at them
You should look into ''chassis saver majic paint'' if thats what your looking to do. Look up stacy Davids Gears on you tube, not cheap but works, no personal experience with it of course

have you tried caulking the seams? i know it's not a sink, but i think i'm going to put a nice thin bead on when i get flares. my doors get covered in salt/grime as soon as i leave the wash...it's very frustrating.

That's exactly why I'm spending the money on flares. Plan to cover up the rust with a rust treatment product and cover up with flares. Not sure what I'm gonna do about the door bottoms yet.
Planning on the Bushwacker bolt on look
Like mentioned the flares will hold moister and salt and will cause rust. Even the little chrome wheel lips that ford used to put on trucks would rust from underneath. The best thing for protecting the rockers, bottom of doors, bottom of fender, bottom of box from rock chips and then rust that I have seen are running boards. As rusty as our trucks are from WI salt the bottom of the rockers, doors, etc. are all perfect because we have running boards on all our trucks.
