So just after I replaced my PS pump, I started up my truck and my ABS and BRAKE light were on and they never went off. My brakes worked fine until the other day when I just started driving and hit my brakes and they went to the floor and barely stopped me. Not to mention when my pedal gets half way down there is a loud "thud" or "bang". My guess is master cylinder cause when I checked my fluid it was empty. Any help would be awesome.
either your master or slave cyl or you have a leak some where fill your break fluid up and have a friend (if you have a girl friend asking her do this will make her day) and check at all 4 tires for leaks if you dont have anyone to help you could just check for "wet" spots at all 4 corners...if their isnt the wet spots then check to see if you can hear the fluid bypass the piston in the master/slave cyl. make shure that your motor is off you will beable to hear this better that way
Need more info? what is this vehicle? If the MC is out of fluid it had to go somewheres. Truckertom21 is right, look under the rig at the drums are rotors and see if there is any fluid. If it drained the MC there should be lots a fluid.
You may not see any fluid if the master cylinder is leaking, because the fluid may be leaking into the power brake booster...which is a common occurance.
true and some times you can hear the fluid bypass the piston thats why i said to check for that either way it sucks...
*edit
that thud is worrieing me i've never heard that before check your break pads, they might be so worn that the piston is going past the point that it should stop i have seen this happen but wasnt their when it did

Reason: the thud/banging
with the master cylinder being empty only 3 things to say on it leak-leak-leak
on the thud-I would check each and every wheel for a mechanical failure-brake pad or shoe/springs etc.
1994 F250 351w 4x4 Standard cab e4OD. I thought about bleeding the brake lines then read in haynes manual about the ABS HCU on the rear diff that needs a mechanic to bleed and if there is air in that unit it will trigger the ABS and Brake light.

The RABS unit is on the left side frame rail and bleeds just the same as the brakes. However you have got to do some checking. Look at each brake you may have a disc pad that has come out and as mentioned unbolt the master cyl from the booster and ease it forward and look for fluid in there. The pedal going to the floor could be a defective master cyl but also could be a burst pipe, dislodged brake pad in front brakes or something broken in rear drums or bad rear wheel cylinder. You have got to look.
My stepfather called one day complaining of white smoke from the exhaust. I go over and it's not smoking at all. Then he said, 'you didn't hit the brake, yet'. I hit the brake and a huge cloud of smoke out the exhaust. The M/S piston rings were bad, and the fluid was getting drawn into the Booster.
I'd still pull the drums. Any noise in the brake system isn't good.
