I recently had a man do some body work for me and he did a very
bad jod. I have been told by 1/2 the people i meet that it is Lacquer primer and the other 1/2 think it is Urethane. Is there and way I can tell for sure?
I was told that you can get some lacqure thinner and apply it to the primer, if the primer comes off, it's lacqure. I got this info from a simple call to one of the local paint stores, but I decided to strip the whole thing down to bare metal and forget about what was there before.
If the guy did a poor job, I'd take it back down to metal and start over. I had a 'pro at home' guy do a car 10 years ago and stripped down the truck 1 month after to find a ton of rust on a once good trunk lid. I'll never do that again.
A paint job cost too much to trust the prep work if the body work is poor.
by the way, 2 gals of PPG epoxy primer is only $80 and epoxy primer is excellent.
